Leonard Fournette must reinvigorate Jaguars offense

Leonard Fournette is expected to be back in action this week, and he needs to give this Jaguars offense a boost.

The Jacksonville Jaguars certainly aren’t treading any dangerous waters right now at 2-1. But there’s no question they fell completely flat on offense against their AFC South rival Tennessee Titans last Sunday.

The Jags only managed a total of six points in the game, via a pair of Josh Lambo field goals, in a 9-6 loss at TIAA Bank Field.

It was most likely just an off day for this Jacksonville team, and it shouldn’t be any real cause for concern. As they look to rebound this Sunday against the New York Jets, though, it will certainly help that star running back Leonard Fournette is expected to be back in the fold.

Fournette has missed Jacksonville’s last two games due to a hamstring injury. His absence in the first game didn’t seem to matter much, as the Jags took down the New England Patriots 31-20. But in the second game, the Jags offense couldn’t get anything going, and the return of Fournette can certainly help reinvigorate this group.

The second-year player seemed to confirm his playing status on Twitter with a foreshadowing tweet, before it was then deleted on Saturday morning. The tweet read, “I’m just thankful happy to be back NO WEAPON FORM AGAINST ME SHALL NOT PROSPER see y’all Sunday.”

We can only take that to mean that Fournette will be taking the field against the Jets on Sunday, and with their star runner back in action, the Jags should certainly be able to muster more than just six points.

Fournette had somewhat of a quiet performance in the team’s season opener against the New York Giants, rushing for 41 yards on nine carries in a 20-15 Jaguars win. It’s only a matter of time before Fournette breaks open for a big performance, and Jacksonville could certainly use one of those on Sunday.
