Jason Witten’s un-retirement sends Twitter into hysteria

A certain future Hall-of-Famer is coming out of retirement, and the Twitter world has taken it and run with it.

Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has decided to come out of retirement and return to the Cowboys for the 2019 season, and, predictably, folks on Twitter are going crazy.

The Cowboys made the official announcement via Twitter Thursday afternoon.

Much had been made of Witten’s performance in the broadcast booth during the 2018 season. He received plenty of criticism for his play-by-play analysis in the Monday Night Football booth with Joe Tessitore. So naturally, many MNF viewers will be grateful for Witten’s decision to return to the playing field.

Sports business reporter Darren Rovell captured the downside to Witten coming out of retirement. Why not just stay retired with numbers like that?

Was this all part of an elaborate scheme by Jerry Jones to get a leg up on the competition? I wouldn’t put it past him.

We’re less than a month away from MLB Opening Day, and a certain big name hasn’t found a team yet. But Jason Witten has. Who would’ve thought?

Ever wondered what Witten would look like in a Cowboys uniform? Well now, thanks to FOX Sports, you won’t have to wait until fall till get a first glance.

The conversation will now turn to who will step in to take Witten’s spot in the MNF broadcast booth. There’s one recent retiree whose name we won’t soon stop hearing.

“The fire inside me to complete and play this game is just burning too strong,” Witten said in an official statement. “This team has a great group of rising young stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship.”

Witten returns to the gridiron where he belongs, and leaves the booth role for someone else. It’s a win-win.
