2019 NFL Draft: 5 players Bills could take in Round 1

Josh Allen exceeded expectations during his rookie year in Buffalo, but the Bills have to find more weapons for him in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Buffalo Bills made a bold choice when they selected Josh Allen in the first round of last year’s draft. Now they need to provide Allen with weapons on offense to help him get the most out of his talent. That’s exactly what the Bills plan to do in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Buffalo has some high-profile needs in other places, but the odds favor general manager Brandon Beane spending his first-round pick on offense. Allen had an encouraging rookie season, but he spent most of it running for his life. Strengthening the offensive line is one direction the Bills could take. They could also look to give Allen a top-flight pass catcher to become his go-to guy moving forward.

If the Bills don’t try to help their offense in Round 1, they could choose to add another key piece to their defensive line. The talent in this class at edge rusher and defensive tackle could tempt Buffalo to try to strengthen their impressive defense. That’s unlikely, but not impossible. Here are the five guys the Bills are most likely to take with the No. 9 pick.

5. Montez Sweat

It would be a significant surprise if Montez Sweat is still on the board here, but if he is, his talent might be too much for coach Sean McDermott to pass on. The former Mississippi State standout has the ability to come right into the NFL and be a double-digit sack artist.

His arrival in Buffalo could finally make Bills fans forget about how disappointing Shaq Lawson has been. Sweat may already be a better player than Trent Murphy, too. Elite edge-rushing talent always goes high in the draft and Sweat is good enough to tempt the Bills to ignore their offensive needs on Day 1.
