Jalen Ramsey requests trade from Jaguars after blowup

All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey has reportedly asked to be traded away from the Jacksonville Jaguars after a sideline confrontation.

Jalen Ramsey wants out. One day after arguing aggressively with his coaching staff during Jacksonville’s 13-12 loss to the Houston Texans, Ramsey is looking for new colors to wear.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Ramsey could be dealt as soon as this week.

Ramsey, 24, is one of the best young corners in the game. After spending three incredibly productive years with Jacksonville, including a pair of All-Pro campaigns, Ramsey has been at odds with management since the offseason. Ramsey was hoping to get an extension once he became eligible in March, but general manager Dave Caldwell was not receptive. The result was Ramsey showing up to training camp in a BRINKS truck, complete with a hype man.

According to sources, Jacksonville has long valued Ramsey despite not believing he deserved an extension immediately.

Now, with Jacksonville 0-2 and looking at backup quarterback Gardner Minshew for the next few months, things are devolving. The Jaguars would need an enormous haul to deal Ramsey away, starting with a first-round choice and going from there. However, considering his age and cheap contract, there should be no shortage of bidders for his services.

Whether or not Ramsey is actually traded remains to be seen. While he wants out, Jacksonville holds is rights through this season and into next due to his fifth-year option. If the Jaguars believe cooler heads can prevail, it might be the path Caldwell takes.
