Jets lose another QB after Trevor Siemian gets crushed

In just the latest sign that the New York Jets are cursed, quarterback Trevor Siemian was knocked out of the game with an ankle injury, leaving the offense in the hands of Luke Falk.

Life isn’t fair for Jets fans, and tonight’s Monday Night Football contest is the latest example this franchise can’t catch a break. Already down starting quarterback Sam Darnold, who is out indefinitely while dealing with mono, the Jets lost backup Trevor Siemian in the second quarter on a brutal hit from Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett.

The video of the play is below, but be warned that it’s not for the faint of heart.

Garrett was flagged for roughing the passer for the late hit on Siemian, who fell awkwardly and saw his left ankle bend backwards on the play. Siemian was somehow able to walk off under his own power, leaving the Jets’ offense in the hands of second-year quarterback Luke Falk.

Falk, 24, was a sixth round pick out of Washington State in the 2018 NFL Draft for the Tennessee Titans. The Titans ended up waiving Falk after training camp, but he was picked up by the Miami Dolphins, who had him on their active roster for a month before placing Falk on injured reserve with a wrist injury.

The Dolphins waived Falk in May before the Jets picked him up, with the connective tissue being Jets coach Adam Gase. Gase was the coach in Miami during Falk’s time there, and he liked Falk enough to have him go through camp, where he surpassed Davis Webb on New York’s depth chart.

The Jets put Falk on their practice squad after the preseason and brought him up to the active roster this morning to back up Siemian. Now that Siemian is out of action, the Jets’ offensive attack will be led by a passer who wasn’t even on an NFL roster 24 hours ago.

After this game, the Jets have matchups with New England, Philadelphia and Dallas coming up. With Falk under center, the Jets are in a whole lot of trouble.
