NFL power rankings, Week 2: Cowboys rise, Saints fall

The New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers both lost their quarterbacks, while the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens have found theirs in fine form.

32

Miami Dolphins 0-2

Last week: L, 43-0 vs. NE
Last rank: 32nd

The Dolphins are a hopeless train wreck of a franchise.

31

New York Giants 0-2

Last week: L, 28-14 vs. BUF
Last rank: 31st

It’s time to start Daniel Jones. Enough with Eli Manning already.

30

New York Jets 0-2

Last week: L, 23-3 vs. CLE
Last rank: 23rd

With Sam Darnold sidelined, this team is going nowhere but down fast.

29

Cincinnati Bengals 0-2

Last week: L, 41-17 vs. SF
Last rank: 30th

Looked decent in Week 1, but got blown out in their home opener by the 49ers. Yikes.

28

Denver Broncos 0-2

Last week: L, 16-14 vs. CHI
Last rank: 27th

Denver is terrible. No offensive punch at all. The roughing the penalty penalty was awful, but so were the Broncos for most of the game.

27

Arizona Cardinals 0-1-1

Last week: L, 23-17 at BAL
Last rank: 28th

Arizona fought hard in Baltimore, so they don’t move down here. The Cardinals might have a real quarterback to build around.

26

Jacksonville Jaguars 0-2

Last week: L, 13-12 at HOU
Last rank: 25th

Gardner Minshew is fun, but the Jaguars don’t have an offense that scares anybody.

25

Washington Redskins 0-2

Last week: L, 31-21 vs. DAL
Last rank: 24th

The Redskins have scored some points and played tough against the Eagles and Cowboys, but the talent is clearly lacking.

24

Oakland Raiders 1-1

Last week: L, 28-10 vs. KC
Last rank: 22nd

The Raiders looked like they were going to shock the Chiefs for 15 minutes. Then the second quarter happened.

23

Pittsburgh Steelers 0-2

Last week: L, 28-26 vs. SEA
Last rank: 18th

Ben Roethlisberger is done for the season. Goodnight.

22

Carolina Panthers 0-2

Last week: L, 20-14 vs. TB
Last rank: 15th

Cam Newton isn’t right. Until he is, the Panthers aren’t beating most teams.

21

Detroit Lions 1-0-1

Last week: W, 13-10 vs. LAC
Last rank: 29th

Detroit is undefeated, but not impressive. The Lions blew an 18-point fourth-quarter lead in Arizona and took eight penalties in an ugly win. Still, undefeated.

20

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1-1

Last week: W, 20-14 at CAR
Last rank: 26th

Tampa Bay is always a wild card because of Jameis Winston. The Bucs looked good Thursday, and now get the Giants at home. Time to make a move.

19

New Orleans Saints 1-1

Last week: L, 27-9 at LAR
Last rank: 4th

Biggest fall of the week, and solely because of Drew Brees’ injury. Can Teddy Bridgewater somehow keep this team afloat?

18

Cleveland Browns 1-1

Last week: W, 23-3 at NYJ
Last rank: 19th

Beating the Jets is fine, but what do they do in Week 3 against the Rams?

17

Tennessee Titans 1-1

Last week: L, 19-17 vs. IND
Last rank: 13th

Great win in Cleveland backed up by a divisional loss at home. Marcus Mariota needs to be so much better.

16

Indianapolis Colts 1-1

Last week: W, 19-17 at TEN
Last rank: 17th

The Colts might be the AFC South’s best.

15

Atlanta Falcons 1-1

Last week: W, 24-20 vs. PHI
Last rank: 20th

Atlanta got a huge win at home. With Drew Brees’ injury, the Falcons should win the NFC South.

14

Houston Texans 1-1

Last week: W, 13-12 vs. JAX
Last rank: 14th

Another four sacks, and only won because of a questionable ruling at the end. Not inspiring confidence.

13

Los Angeles Chargers 1-1

Last week: L, 13-10 at DET
Last rank: 6th

This ranking is partially injuries, and partially losing to the Lions due to mind-numbing errors. Brutal loss.

12

Chicago Bears 1-1

Last week: W, 16-14 vs. DEN
Last rank: 12th

If Mitchell Trubisky doesn’t get exponentially better, the Bears are in huge trouble.

11

San Francisco 49ers 2-0

Last week: W, 41-17 at CIN
Last rank: 21st

The 49ers make the largest leap this week. Look, two road wins, big margins. San Francisco deserves respect.

10

Buffalo Bills 2-0

Last week: W, 28-14 at NYG
Last rank: 16th

Buffalo is showcasing a terrific defense. If the offense can play as it did on Sunday, the Bills could be a playoff contender.

9

Minnesota Vikings 1-1

Last week: L, 21-16 at GB
Last rank: 7th

Minnesota has a terrific roster, and it’s tough to ding the Vikings for losing at Lambeau. Still, Kirk Cousins must be much better.

8

Seattle Seahawks 2-0

Last week: W, 28-26 at PIT
Last rank: 11th

Seattle remains a tough team, and one that should be fighting to make noise in January.

7

Baltimore Ravens 2-0

Last week: W, 23-17 vs. AZ
Last rank: 10th

The Ravens have beaten the Dolphins and Cardinals. Now they play the Chiefs at Arrowhead. Huge test for a good team.

6

Philadelphia Eagles 1-1

Last week: L, 24-20 at ATL
Last rank: 3rd

Philadelphia lost a good game to a tough team, but the injuries are very concerning.

5

Green Bay Packers 2-0

Last week: W, 21-16 vs. MIN
Last rank: 9th

New offense, new defense, hew hope. The Packers appear to be a real threat.

4

Los Angeles Rams 2-0

Last week: W, 27-9 vs. NO
Last rank: 5th

The Rams were barely talked about all offseason. They look pretty damn good so far.

3

Dallas Cowboys 2-0

Last week: W, 31-21 at WSH
Last rank: 8th

Dak Prescott looks great, the defense is rolling and the skill position players are elite. This is the NFC’s best roster right now.

2

Kansas City Chiefs 2-0

Last week: W, 28-10 at OAK
Last rank: 2nd

Will the AFC Championship Game be in Foxboro or Kansas City?

1

New England Patriots 2-0

Last week: W, 43-0 at MIA
Last rank: 1st

Beating the Dolphins is an easy task, but the Patriots look dominant.
