Jets finally getting Sam Darnold back from mono

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has been out since Week 1, but he will reportedly make his return against the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Jets have suffered a nightmare start to the 2019 regular season, but the worst is about to be over. Sam Darnold is about to make his return.

Darnold has been out since Week 1 with mono, and the Jets have floundered in his absence. Luke Falk has been predictably unable to elevate the offense, so Le’Veon Bell, the team’s best skill position player, has found it impossible to move the ball on the ground.

Thankfully, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Darnold is healed and ready to play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6.

The Cowboys are one of the NFL’s best teams, but they are a wounded animal after falling short of a furious second-half comeback against fellow NFC contenders in the Green Bay Packers. Dallas’s defense could cause the Jets offense huge problems, especially if Darnold shows signs of rust.

But Darnold will at least give the Jets a fighting chance, which is more than can be said for Falk’s performance at quarterback. Last week against another NFC East team with Super Bowl aspirations, the Jets looked completely lost, falling 31-6.

Next: Where do the Jets stand in this week’s power rankings?

The Jets have started the season 0-4 under new head coach Adam Gase, who already seems to be fighting for his job. Darnold’s return, though, breathes some new life into the Jets organization, and Week 6 will be all about building some momentum on offense.
