Tennessee Titans have Carolina Panthers on upset alert in Week 9

With Ryan Tannehill at quarterback, the Tennessee Titans may be able to upset the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.

It’s a game that many outside of the Southeast are not going to care a ton about, but there is serious upset potential when the Tennessee Titans come to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers this weekend. Tennessee has played better with Ryan Tannehill as its starting quarterback and he could be the reason the Titans get it done on Sunday afternoon.

Andy Holloway of The Fantasy Footballers has been impressed with the job of Tannehill in that he’s not Marcus Mariota and can put together consecutive games of consistent football. Factor in that Panthers starting quarterback Kyle Allen struggled last week versus the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee is primed to upset Carolina in Charlotte.

Tennessee has been sound defensively throughout the entire Mike Vrabel era in Nashville. It’s been a big reason we’ve seen the Titans win over half their ball games these last few years. However, Mariota’s inconsistency at the quarterback position has knocked the Titans done a peg in terms of being a serious contender in the AFC.

That’s not to say that the Titans are in the mix to do a lot in the NFL playoffs should they even qualify, but a quality road win against a team that too looks playoff-caliber in the Panthers would be a nice feather in the Titans’ cap for the midway point of the season.

When healthy, we have seen Tannehill play solid quarterback before. He may not get a ton of help from his first-year offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, but Tannehill can play mistake-free football to lift the Titans to a big road win here in Week 9 in Charlotte.

If Cam Newton was playing for the Panthers, this might be a different story. However, NFL defenses may have started to figure out Allen a bit. Vrabel is a good defensive coach, so if his staff devises a solid game plan on that side of the ball, look for the Titans to be in the mix to pull off this road upset.
