Derrick Henry ran train over the Kansas City Chiefs defense

One of the biggest reasons the Tennessee Titans were able to upset the Kansas City Chiefs was a monster day out of running back Derrick Henry.

Patrick Mahomes was back in the starting lineup for the Kansas City Chiefs. The reigning NFL MVP had been out for the last few weeks after suffering a dislocated kneecap. Everybody and their brother thought that the Chiefs were going to cream the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon. Too bad that news didn’t make it to Nashville or to running back Derrick Henry.

After being let down by his alma mater Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night, Henry was not about to have his football weekend completely ruined. The Tennessee bell-cow back ran all over the struggling Kansas City rush defense. He had his best game of the 2019 NFL season and The Fantasy Footballers certainly took notice.

In the Titans’ narrow 35-32 home victory over the visiting Chiefs, the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner had 23 carries for a season-best 188 rushing yards and two trips to pay dirt on the ground. He also had two catches for three yards out of the Tennessee backfield. This led to Henry posting a season-best 30 fantasy points.

This was the second time this season that Henry broke the century mark in the Titans backfield. Sunday was also the first time he had more than one rushing touchdown in a game and the first time he broke the 30 fantasy points threshold this year. His previous best this year came in the Week 1 road opener vs. the Cleveland Browns.

Overall, it has been an up and down year for the Titans. Tennessee has played considerably better ball once head coach Mike Vrabel decided to move off Marcus Mariota as his starting quarterback in favor of the former Miami Dolphins starter Ryan Tannehill. The Titans have been strong defensively for the most part, but haven’t been world-beaters on the offensive side of the ball.

Ultimately, this will likely go down as Henry’s best game of the season. Could he get over 30 points in fantasy for you during your playoff run? Potentially, but you can feel very confident that the Titans starting running back can get you in the mid-teens to low-20s every week. He’s met that threshold five times, including three of the Titans’ last four ballgames.
