Chiefs can’t stay healthy ever, Tyreek Hill hurts hamstring

The Kansas City Chiefs just can’t stay healthy. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a hamstring injury early in their game with the Los Angeles Chargers.

It’s been a year of poor health for the Kansas City Chiefs. Starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes dealt with a bum ankle for the first few weeks of the season, as he suffered that injury on the road Week 1 vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. He dealt with that until dislocating his kneecap weeks later on Thursday Night Football vs. the division rival Denver Broncos. Fortunately, he recovered quickly.

That being said, the Chiefs haven’t exactly dominated in all three phases since he returned a few weeks back. The Chiefs entered Week 11 at 6-4 on the year facing another division rival in the Los Angeles Chargers, this time down in Mexico City in Estadio Azteca on Monday Night Football. Very early in the game, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill had to exit the contest with a hamstring injury.

In short, the Chiefs have had maybe a combined two games this season where their offensive arsenal was at 100 percent, even though Mahomes won’t likely be 100 percent until the offseason, as there’s surely ligament damage from him dislocating his kneecap a few weeks back.

The problem with this is that the Chiefs need to be an absolute buzzsaw offensively if they want to contend for the Super Bowl. That’s because defensively they can’t stop the run for the life of them, the pass rush has seen better days and the secondary is only a bit better than it was last year, which was ghastly bad.

The connection that Mahomes has with Hill is unlike any other in professional football. Where else are you going to have the strongest right arm hurling deep balls to the fastest man in pads? Exactly. No defensive backfield can hope to contain that verticality if it is allowed to flourish. Of course, Kansas City did draft another speedy wide receiver in Mecole Hardman, but he’s not Hill.

If Kansas City has to be without Hill for an extended stretch, that’ll both put pressure on guys like Hardman to step up, as well as shrink the field for the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs should be alright with Mahomes spreading the ball around to Hardman and tight end Travis Kelce, among others. That being said, if they want to get back to the AFC Championship, they’ll need Hill back stat.
