Estadio Azteca is rivaling Neyland Stadium for the worst turf in football

Monday Night Football should be fun. Too bad Estadio Azteca’s turf is making a mockery of the NFL. It’s almost as bad as Neyland Stadium’s a few years back.

Are you ready for some football? Well, guess who wasn’t ready for some Monday Night Football action down in Mexico City? That would be the turf of Estadio Azteca. The grass looks like hay and is clumpier than your morning oatmeal. It’s so bad, it reminds college football fans of that on-field monstrosity that plague the Tennessee Volunteers’ Neyland Stadium. Fix your field, Tennessee!

Estadio Azteca is one of the greatest and most iconic venues in sports. It was the first stadium to host two FIFA World Cup Finals. The Mexican National Team plays there and usually puts a whooping on the arch-rival U.S. Men’s National Team. No, it’s not just the altitude, but the attitude of the grass that simply hates football spikes.

Remember how when you were a kid and your dad told you that you needed to put down the dang video games and be a contributing member to this family? You were quite hitting puberty, but guess who had to start cutting the grass? You did it, and you didn’t hate it, except bagging the grass. So instead, you let the clippings fly around like a plastic bag in the Windy City.

Basically, Estadio Azteca’s turf looks like the teenage version of you went to town on it with a Craftsman lawn mower your family purchased at Sears back in the early 1990s. If this was a summer job you had when you were 16-years-old, no, Mrs. Bryant was not going to pay you $20 for this hack job attempt of landscaping.

While the Estadio Azteca turf is not snapping sinew like toothpicks as Neyland Stadium tended to do during the lovely Butch Jones era in Knoxville, brick by brick, this grass is going to look more like a cow pasture than a football field and that stinks!

Fortunately for America, the NFL is not going back to Mexico until at least next year. Rog still has his fascination with London, so we still got that to deal with for the end of time. Thankfully, the NFL will be gone in 60 minutes and kiss this clumpy turf goodbye.

Unless the Los Angeles Chargers want to stay; they have more fans here than they typically do in Carson. As for the Kansas City Chiefs, they were right about the turf last year, this year and probably next year. So no, Andy Reid is never going to train his team in altitude for his proud AFC West franchise to go play in a green hayfield of nonsense.
