After a wacky Week 13 saw a ton of strange results in the NFL, expect more out of the underdogs in Week 14’s best bets.
There are weeks where down is up in the NFL, and Week 13 was certainly one of them. Three of the league’s worst teams (Miami, Cincinnati and Washington) won outright, stunning bettors who had made a pattern out of picking against them.
That trend could continue this week, with a bunch of questionable numbers involving so-so squads taking on poor teams. We’ll start out this week’s look at the best bets in the NFL with the return of Minshew Mania in Jacksonville.
5. Jaguars +2.5
The Nick Foles era appears to be over in Jacksonville with Doug Marrone going back to Gardner Minshew this week. Minshew wasn’t spectacular in his return to the lineup against Tampa, but he was far more effective than Foles, who turned the ball over on each of his first three drives.
The Jaguars now have a week to get Minshew ready for a home game against the 4-8 Los Angeles Chargers, who found another excruciating way to lose after a pass interference call set up the Denver Broncos for the game-winning field goal. The Chargers are going nowhere this season, so it’s fair to question their motivation as they fly across the country for a matchup against the struggling Jaguars.
The fact that Los Angeles is favored in this game doesn’t make much sense, so ride Minshew mania again and take the home underdog getting points.
