The Philadelphia Eagles couldn’t take down Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round. Here are five moves they need to make in order to return to the playoffs and progress further in 2020.

After winning the Super Bowl two years ago with a memorable triumph over the New England Patriots, the Philadelphia Eagles have been on rockier ground in the past two seasons.

They needed a last-ditch charge for the playoffs last season before tumbling out against a stronger New Orleans Saints side, and after outlasting the Dallas Cowboys to win the division this year, they were no match for Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks due to their own star quarterback’s injury.

If the Eagles make these five moves this offseason, though, they could return to being one of the most feared teams in the NFC in 2020. After all, they can’t be this unlucky with injuries again.

5. Re-sign or replace Vinny Curry

After a slow start to the season, Vinny Curry showed why he is one of the best sub-package edge rushers in the NFL with a strong finish to the campaign. He even blocked a kick in Philadelphia’s postseason loss, reminding fans how good he is in the most important games.

Curry is heading into unrestricted free agency this offseason as a 32-year-old, and his play over the last few weeks of the 2019 season showed he still has plenty left in the tank. Statistically, Curry’s five sacks and 12 quarterback hits look underwhelming, but he’s long been a consistent source of pressure – and clutch plays – for the Eagles defense.

Perhaps Philly looks to go younger at the position, but they already have a rising star in Derek Barnett as Brandon Graham’s bookend. Curry fits a key niche, and unless he demands a huge payday, which is unlikely, keeping him is in Philadelphia’s best interests. They need three good edge rushers, especially since they have massive question marks in the secondary.
