Super Bowl preview Fantasy POV: Butker gives Chiefs kicking advantage

If Super Bowl LIV (54) must be decided by a field goal, the Chiefs’ Harrison Butker is the placekicker you want to attempt the decisive kick.

Butker was fantasy football’s most productive kicker during the 2019 season, according to the ESPN FFL PPR scoring system.   He averaged 10.8 fantasy football points per game (FFPPG). That means Butker is a strong option in daily fantasy games for the Super Bowl.

Would I go as far as to make him a captain on DraftKings or the MVP on FanDuel? It’s honestly not a bad idea if you believe the San Francisco defense can hold this offense to field goals instead of touchdowns.

Butker led the NFL with 34 field goals and was third in extra points made with 45.  You should fully expect him to be the first placekicker selected in the 2020 fantasy football draft.

If there is a weakness to Butker’s placekicking, it’s his lack of converting 100% of his extra points.  He was 6 out of 7 extra points in the 51-31 win over Houston and a perfect 5 for 5 against the TItans in the AFC Championship game.  During the regular season, Butker made 45 out of 48 extra point attempts.

San Francisco’s placekicker is veteran Robbie Gould.  Gould made 23 out of 31 field goal attempts during the 2019 season.  He also made 41 out of 42 extra point attempts.

In the playoffs, Gould has been perfect.  He is 5 for 5 in fields and 7 for 7 in extra points.

ADVANTAGE – Kansas City Chiefs

Butker was the only placekicker to average over 10 fantasy football points per game during the 2019 season.  He made several crucial kicks, especially in December, to help Kansas City secure the number 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. Butker should finish the season strong as well.
