Chiefs ride Patrick Mahomes to incredible Super Bowl comeback

Here’s the full Super Bowl 54 recap, highlights, and score following the Kansas City Chiefs come from behind victory.

The 2019 season is officially in the books with the Kansas City Chiefs winning Super Bowl 54.

What a thrilling finish to a great Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-20. Patrick Mahomes was named the Super Bowl MVP for leading a 21 unanswered point comeback with six minutes remaining in the game.

After receiving the opening kickoff, Mahomes and the Chiefs promptly went three and out. The 49ers then took the ball down the field before stalling and having to kick a field goal to take a 3-0 early lead.

The Chiefs then took the lead on a 75-yard drive capped off by a one-yard Mahomes touchdown run. After a Jimmy Garoppolo interception, the Chiefs kicked a field goal to take a 10-3 lead.

The 49ers then tied the game on an 80-yard touchdown ending in a 15-yard pass from Garoppolo to full back Kyle Juszczyk. The score was tied 10-10 heading into the locker room.

The 49ers came out of the half scoring a field goal on the opening possession of the second half, then Fred Warner picked off Mahomes, followed by Raheem Mostert punching in a one-yard touchdown to bring the 49ers lead to 20-10. They then picked off Mahomes a second time before punting on their next drive.

From there, Mahomes and the Chiefs took over, scoring 21 unanswered points in the remaining six minutes of the game.

A 44-yard pass to Tyreek Hill on 3rd and 15 with seven minutes left set up the Chiefs at the San Francisco 21. A pass interference in the endzone set up a one-yard Travis Kelce touchdown catch.

San Francisco then went three and out, punted, and the Chiefs again drove down the field, highlighted by a 38-yard pass to Sammy Watkins and a five-yard touchdown pass to Damien Williams.

The Chiefs defense continued to step up on the next possession, sacking Jimmy Garoppolo on a 4th and 10, setting up Mahomes and the offense at the 49ers’ 42-yard line.

Williams took the second play of the drive 38 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 31-20.

With 1:08 left in the game and on 2nd and 10 from their own 25, Garoppolo’s deep pass to Deebo Samuel was intercepted by Kendall Fuller, putting the Chiefs a few kneel downs away from a Super Bowl win.

Following the game, Mahomes was named the Super Bowl MVP.
