With questionable football futures, who would you rather have in a fantasy football dynasty league at running back: Leonard Fournette or Le’Veon Bell?
Not that long ago, Leonard Fournette and Le’Veon Bell were two of the most sought-after running backs in fantasy football. Fournette was the former No. 4 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU. Bell was a perennial Pro Bowl running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now both have varying levels of uncertainty surrounding their NFL futures.
The Fantasy Footballers ask who they would rather have on their fantasy football dynasty team going forward. Depending on if Fournette receives the fifth-year option from the Jaguars or not for 2021, his time with the team could be winding down as he potentially heads towards free agency. Bell spent a year out of football before signing a multi-year deal with the New York Jets last spring.

Jason Moore would go with Fournette over Bell, while Mike Wright would side with Bell over Fournette, but doesn’t feel overly great about it. Andy Holloway is in the same boat with Wright over this potential dynasty league running back situation, reluctantly going with Bell over Fournette. How should you go about handling this dynasty league running back dilemma?
For the time being, Bell will remain a Jet, albeit an overpriced one. So expect head coach Adam Gase to make the most of Mike Maccagnan’s Gang Green parting gift from the organization in 2020. As for Fournette, how sure are we he can be a featured back on a franchise in the vein of say a Derrick Henry? Is Fournette the type of back who can win you games with 25 carries each week?
If Fournette were to leave Jacksonville, there is no telling if he’ll even be a featured back. He might find himself in a platoon, which won’t be good for his fantasy football status. However, he did show he can be a major factor in the receiving game last year with Jacksonville. In short, Fournette isn’t a run-only tailback like an Adrian Peterson we all thought he was coming out of LSU in 2017.
Overall, Fournette is younger and his game is evolving, unlike Bell’s. Though Bell might be more likely to catch balls out of the backfield than Fournette, there seems to be a longer runway with Fournette than with Bell in terms of fantasy football usefulness. Father Time is undefeated and that favors Fournette over Bell in this situations. It’s close, but side with Fournette over Bell.
