Chicago Bears look so dumb for trading for Nick Foles after Pats signed Cam Newton

The Pats signing Cam Newton makes the Bears look worse for Nick Foles trade

Bill Belichick is on top of the world right now, and everyone who doubted him for even a second is feeling like a huge sucker. Sunday’s breaking news that the Patriots signed Cam Newton to a one-year deal made them immediate contenders to once again to win the AFC East.

In addition, it also provided a proverbial slap in the face to Bears fans everywhere. Plenty of folks in Chicago were hoping the team would go and and get Newton. Instead, they traded for Nick Foles with the Jaguars. That move is looking even worse by the minute.

Bears fans undoubtedly wished the team would have signed Cam Newton

Looking back on things, what in the world was general manager Ryan Pace and the rest of the Chicago front office thinking? Sure, Foles is a Super Bowl-winning quarterback with an impressive right arm, but he was a massive bust in Jacksonville after signing his massive four-year, $88 million deal. So much in fact, the Jags showed him the pine so rookie Gardner Minshew could close out the season as the starter.

Now, Foles will be on his third team in three years, while a rejuvenated Newton will head to New England to try and get the Pats back to the postseason once again. Oh, and he’ll be doing that for about 1/3 the price, while holding probably twice the athleticism.

Right now, everyone in New England is celebrating the Newton news. Meanwhile in Chicago, fans might be drowning their sorrows in beer and deep-dish pizza, left wondering what could have been if the team would have signed Newton instead.
