Pittsburgh Steelers fans will have to forgive Ben Roethlisberger for failing miserably at a quarterback sneak against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has had a long and illustrious career in the NFL. This play won’t make his career highlight reel.
On Pittsburgh’s initial drive of its game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Steelers faced a 3rd and 1. The call was a quarterback sneak and Roethlisberger, well, you take a look.
Pittsburgh ended up punting, and one can only imagine that Roethlisberger went off to the sideline in hopes of forgetting about what he did.
Of course, we’re giving Roethlisberger a hard time for fun. He’s considered one of the league’s elite quarterbacks with good reason as a two-time Super Bowl champion, and was the youngest starting quarterback to win a Super Bowl at age 23 — a mark that has stood since the 2005 season.
Roethlisberger got the ball, and that was pretty much the end of it. He went nowhere. It took all of about a millisecond for him to get stuffed, putting an ugly halt to the Steelers’ drive still in their own territory.
Big Ben has a pretty solid resume in the NFL. It’s tough to knock a guy with two Super Bowl rings, so we can give him a pass for this bonehead play.
Ultimately, this failed quarterback sneak will probably end up getting overlooked entirely. The Steelers are playing excellent football right now, having won five straight games with a firm grasp on first place in the AFC North. They are playing a very vulnerable Jacksonville team that has had nothing but problems in 2018. If Pittsburgh ends up winning the game, everyone can forget about that terrible play as if it never even happened.
But man, Roethlisberger sure did look silly getting stuffed on a play that most quarterbacks can pull off with ease. Even the greats contribute to NFL blooper reels every once in a while.
