5 bold predictions for Cowboys in 2019

The Cowboys are heading into the 2019 season with a Super Bowl title on their minds, but will things go according to plan for Jason Garrett’s team?

Jerry Jones and his front office deserve credit for putting together one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. Whether or not the pieces fit together for the Cowboys is an entirely different question. It’ll be up to head coach Jason Garrett to find the right mix in 2019.

Offensively, don’t expect the formula to change very much. Ezekiel Elliott will be expected to bludgeon opposing defenses and then Dak Prescott will combine with Amari Cooper to make plays down the field. The unsung hero of the Cowboys will continue to be the powerful offensive line that allows their skill players to make things happen.

Defensively, there are a few more questions. The front seven is pretty stacked. In particular, the linebacking corps of Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee can really fly around and make plays. If there’s a concern, it’s in the secondary. The talent level there is much lower than everywhere else on the Dallas roster.

One thing you can count on is for some wild things to happen with the Cowboys. The first of our five bold predictions is about a first rounder who is currently struggling to make the 53-man roster.

5. Taco Charlton will notch eight sacks

There are plenty of Cowboys fans who would claim Charlton has a better chance of being cut before the regular season than emerging as a quality starter. They’re wrong. Charlton isn’t the most focused player in the NFL, but his talent is undeniable.

Look for this to be the year where he finally puts things together. He will find a way to split snaps with Robert Quinn for most of the season. That’s a great place for a pass rusher to be. DeMarcus Lawrence is going to draw a ton of double teams which will allow whoever plays on the other side a lot of free rushes against over-matched offensive tackles.

Charlton has a chance to get to 10 sacks, but eight is a little bit safer. Either way, the Cowboys are going to feel great about what he gives them this season.
