Jalen Ramsey has been ruled out for Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey is still hoping to receive a trade, and he won’t be playing in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos due to a back injury.

Jalen Ramsey made his desire to receive a trade out of Jacksonville known before the team’s Week 3 win on Thursday Night Football over the rival Tennessee Titans, in which he recorded eight tackles and forced a fumble. But the Jaguars won’t benefit from Ramsey’s presence in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos.

The Jaguars top cornerback has been listed as inactive with a back injury. Now, the “back injury” may need air quotes or an asterisk, since it could be used as a reason for Ramsey to sit out and not risk injury while he requests a trade elsewhere.

After all, it was a surprise that Ramsey faced the Titans because of this injury risk. Ramsey and Doug Marrone had a little spat on the sideline earlier this year, but Ramsey has made it clear that his issues are with executive Tom Coughlin, who has likely been the major reason why the former first-round pick has yet to receive a new contract.

Ramsey has been one of the NFL’s best defensive backs since being drafted, as he’s a shutdown corner with no shortage of playmaking ability. Several teams would be excited to have Ramsey, provided the Jaguars reduce their asking price to something more reasonable than two first-round selections.

The Jaguars have AJ Bouye and other talented players on their defense, but they will miss Ramsey against Denver and going forward. While Jacksonville’s owner Shahid Khan has offered to make Ramsey the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback, a split between both parties has always been the most likely ending point.

Ramsey being ruled out in Week 4 just puts the Jaguars one step closer to making a trade that has been a long time coming.
