The 2020 NFL Draft will feature quite a few trades in the first round. These five teams are the most likely franchises to make the big moves.
The NFL Draft is annually shaken up by first-round trades that drastically alter the futures of the franchises that make them. The question isn’t whether or not there will be seismic deals in Round 1. Instead, it’s appropriate to wonder which teams will be involved in the madness.
Interestingly enough, the best and worst teams in the league are both equally motivated to make deals. Super Bowl contenders see the draft as an opportunity to fill the one need they still have before they can be the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. The NFL’s bottom dwellers have the highest picks and want to move around to extract the maximum amount of value they can from those valuable selections.
The following five teams have the most motivation to make a trade in the first round of this year’s draft. Keep a close eye on each franchise if you want to get a sense of where the action will occur on draft night.
5. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are in a really bizarre salary cap spot at the moment. They currently have exactly $177 in room under the salary cap. That makes them a prime candidate to swing a cost-cutting move in the first round.
That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to deal Chris Jones on draft night. The Chiefs could also elect to trade out of Round 1 to buy themselves a little breathing room. Flipping a first-round pick for some more draft capital down the line might be a prudent move by the team’s front office.
No matter what, don’t expect inactivity from the Chiefs. They will be active in trade talks approaching the draft. A deal involving their first-rounder is a serious possibility.
