Why do the best teams always seem to find a way to get better? This was exactly the case with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, as they added another piece to their already stellar defense. They waited patiently at No. 28 and ended up with one of the best picks of the night. LSU Tigers linebacker Patrick Queen fell right into their laps, and it was awesome to watch from afar.
Queen was one of five former Bayou Bengals to be take in the first round. We had a feeling Baltimore was going to look at linebacker or a pass rusher at No. 28, but once the Los Angeles Chargers traded up to No. 23 to draft Kenneth Murray out of Oklahoma, it felt like Queen was destined for the Charm City. It’s amazing he even fell as far as he did in all honesty.
Even more incredible, the pick right before Baltimore at No. 28, the Seattle Seahawks massively overdrafted Texas Tech linebacker Jordyn Brooks at No. 27. When have you ever heard of a former Red Raider standout doing much of anything from the defensive side of the ball at the professional level? Brooks had an early fourth-round grade. This is why Baltimore is so well-run.
Queen won a national championship in his final college game at LSU. He is a rangy player who will be tasked with being a long-term replacement over C.J. Mosley in Baltimore. No, he doesn’t have to be Ray Lewis, but Baltimore will need him to play at a high level right away if the Ravens want to win a Super Bowl before NFL MVP Lamar Jackson‘s rookie contract runs its course.
