When taking a deeper look at the stats, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has personified being clutch for the last decade.
Aaron Rodgers has truly been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for awhile now. The 36-year-old quarterback has made multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams, won two MVP’s and a Super Bowl in 12 years starting for Green Bay.
Clutch is definitely a word that can be used to describe Rodgers. No matter what your definition of clutch is, he deserves to be in the conversation because of his body of work when the game comes down to the wire. According to Pro Football Focus, it puts Rodgers at the top of that discussion.
PFF defines a “big-time throw” as a metric of their highest-graded pass attempts based upon ball placement, velocity, targeted depth and other factors. If the naked eye does not prove Rodgers is one of the best in the late moments, his combination of arm accuracy and throw power shows through with the numbers.
Whether it be in a regular season game or in the playoffs, Rodgers has a knack for making big plays whenever necessary. Even if the supporting cast is not up to par, No. 12 makes the most of his situation year in and year out.
Although there are other stats that could be used like fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives, there are still other moments that can be considered as clutch no matter the scoreboard. Third-down situations, two-minute drills or needing a scoring drive to ice the game should also be considered.
Even if Rodgers does not rank high for comebacks or game-winning drives, it still speaks volumes that he is atop the leaderboard for big-time throws in the fourth quarter and overtime. In situations where Green Bay needs a big play, Rodgers more often than not makes it for the Pack, and will look to continue to do so in 2020.
