Chicago Bears standout sitting out season due to coronavirus concerns

Stud Chicago Bears defensive tackle Eddie Goldman will sit out the 2020 season due to coronavirus concerns

Due to the growing concerns of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, we’re seeing more and more NFL players come out and announce they’re opting out of the 2020 campaign. On Tuesday morning, the list has grown, with some bad news coming in for Chicago Bears fans.

The latest player to opt out of the season is star defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, who has been an absolute force in the trenches for Chicago in recent years. However, if the Bears push for an NFC North championship in 2020, they’ll have to do so with Goldman watching from home.

Eddie Goldman has started 46 games in the past three seasons for the Chicago Bears

Goldman is a total monster on the gridiron, checking in at 6-3, 318 pounds. In the past three seasons, he’s started 46 games for the Bears and posted 113 tackles. Last season, Goldman had another strong campaign, recording 29 stops and one sack.

With Goldman now gone for the year, though, his absence will undoubtedly be felt for the Chicago defense. Having one of your key starters on the defensive line out for the entire campaign is never good news and his production will be tough to replace.

Goldman of course isn’t the only player to opt out over coronavirus concerns. On Tuesday alone, Broncos defensive tackle Kyle Peko, Cowboys receiver Stephen Guidry, Ravens offensive tackle Andre Smith, Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower and Patriots running back Brandon Bolden have all made the decision to not play this year.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was the first player to announce he’d be opting out, but the list has now reached double digits.

Players across the league are clearly worried about their safety due to the pandemic. You can expect more and more guys to opt out from playing in 2020 as the week goes on.
