The Green Bay Packers have officially signed wide receiver Malik Turner .
For months now, Green Bay Packers fans have been waiting for general manager Brian Gutekunst to go out and make a big splash in the wide receiver department. This team needs some more help for future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers.
After the Packers didn’t take a single wideout in the NFL Draft and used a first-round pick on quarterback Jordan Love, Aaron Rodgers was understandably upset. Well, the team has finally signed a wide receiver to bring some excitement to the offense.
That signing is … free-agent wideout Malik Turner? Green Bay signed the former Seahawks receiver on Tuesday. However, this really isn’t enough to fire up Rodgers or get a parade started in Wisconsin.
Malik Turner will look to wipe away terrible memories he previously had at Lambeau Field while with the Seahawks
Turner is entering his third season in the NFL, suiting up for the Seahawks in 2018 and 2019. Turner was never a flashy player for Russell Wilson and Seattle, posting 17 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown in his two years in the Emerald City.
Unfortunately for Turner, he doesn’t have great memories at Lambeau Field. During the postseason last winter, with Green Bay leading Turner’s Hawks 28-23, the young wideout let a ball slip through his hands late in the fourth quarter on what would have been a huge third-down conversion. That play would have extended the drive and had Seattle in a position to potentially stun the Packers toward the end of regulation. Instead, Turner dropped the ball.
He’ll now look to get his career going with the Packers, but this isn’t the kind of sexy signing Packers Nation had been hoping for. With Rodgers only getting older and Love heading to town, it feels like only a matter of time before there’s a quarterback change in Green Bay.
And if the team wants to help Rodgers win one last Super Bowl with the organization, signing Turner isn’t the move to help get things done.
