Bad news has arrived for the Panthers, as star running back Christian McCaffrey will miss multiple weeks with an ankle injury.
Week 2 turned out to be a nightmare for NFL teams everywhere, as there were countless players who went down with some concerning injuries. Star Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey was on the list, as the speedster went down with an ankle injury and was clearly in a ton of pain.
Now, McCaffrey is set to be sidelined for multiple weeks due to that ankle injury. This is terrible news for Carolina, which has started off the 2020 campaign with losses to the Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Christian McCaffrey missing any kind of time is terrible news for new starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater
Now in his fourth year in the Panthers’ backfield, McCaffrey is the straw that stirs the drink for the offense. Fresh off a stellar 2019 campaign where he was named First-Team All-Pro after rushing for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns, and adding 116 receptions for 1,005 yards, McCaffrey already has four rushing scores thus far in 2020.
Before suffering his injury in the Week 2 loss to the Bucs and Tom Brady, McCaffrey had rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns, while adding four receptions for 29 yards. There are few running backs who do such a great job catching the ball and bursting up field like he does.
With the 5-foot-11, 205-pounder now set to be sidelined for multiple weeks, the Panthers will now have to shift their offensive focus and change the game plan altogether.
The team will head to L.A. this weekend to take on the Chargers and then they’ll follow that up with a Week 4 tilt against the Arizona Cardinals. We’ll have to wait and see when exactly McCaffrey will be able to make this way back.
