Denver Broncos, New York Jets

Vic Fangio appears to snub Adam Gase and Jets after Thursday Night Football

Vic Fangio wanted to avoid confrontation with Adam Gase and not shake hands.

Vic Fangio’s Denver Broncos were not down with shaking hands with Adam Gase’s New York Jets.

Though the Broncos defeated the Jets to improve to 1-3 on the year, things got a little chippy once the game was out of reach. As expected, Gregg Williams’ Jets defense got some late unnecessary penalties by hitting Denver quarterback Brett Rypien and Broncos wide receivers on the sidelines. To avoid a potential kerfuffle, Fangio told his team to go to the locker room as the game ended.

This is what happens when you let Gregg Williams coach your defense.

Though it has been a decade since Bountygate, the stigma sticks with the former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator. No team routinely plays through the whistle on that side of the ball than whatever team has Williams coordinating its defense. His reputation speaks for itself, and that’s why he didn’t get the interim tag removed when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

You could tell by the tone of his voice and the manner in which he spoke that Fangio was furious about how ugly the game was getting in the final seconds. As with Williams, Fangio is a defensive-minded coach who specializes in getting pressure on the opposing quarterback. However, he doesn’t have a reputation as poor league-wide as does Williams. It reflects poorly on Gase.

At 0-4, the Jets are arguably the worst team in the NFL. The only team who is in the running for that is their MetLife co-occupant in the equally pitiful New York Giants. Though the Jets did play well at times in this game, you are what your record says you are. We got a surprisingly competitive game between two AFC bottom-feeders and it made for a good television product.

Denver didn’t need to get in a fight tonight, so that’s why the Broncos walked off the field.
