Garett Bolles missed the mark after his Broncos got destroyed by the Chiefs
The Denver Broncos had a miserable game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes only had to throw the ball 23 times in the frigid Denver air because the Broncos couldn’t stop making mistakes and turning the ball over.
This should have the players trying to figure out how to work hard enough to even compete with the Chiefs. Offensive lineman Garett Bolles already believes his team is at the level of the defending Super Bowl champions. Yes, it’s true.
Bolles and Broncos still have a long way to go
Bolles has actually been a pleasant surprise for the Broncos this year after having his fifth-year option turned down this past offseason. That may have served a a wake-up call for him to get better and he is now in line to make some serious cash in 2021.
But his team is not playing to the same level. The Broncos are now 2-4 and 0-3 at home this season. Drew Lock threw two interceptions in the loss to the Chiefs, Melvin Gordon lost two fumbles, and the Chiefs took a kick to the house. A 43-16 final score doesn’t seem to indicate the two teams are “neck and neck” as Bolles seems to believe.
Of course, Bolles is not going to say the Broncos are terrible and the Chiefs are the best team ever. Quotes like this just stand out after a total beatdown and disgruntled Broncos fans may prefer the players to be a bit more introspective instead of ignoring the obvious.
The Broncos have not had a winning season since 2016 and entered a bit of a rebuild following a Super Bowl win during the 2015 season. The Chiefs have jumped in as the leaders of the AFC West division and don’t appear to be threatened by the Broncos anytime soon.
Bolles is a competitor and believes his team is special. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to change the reality of being 2-4 and at the bottom of the division.
