Jimmie Ward called out DK Metcalf after 49ers got blown out by Packers

49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward decided to call out DK Metcalf for no good reason after his team lost yet again.

The San Francisco 49ers suffered yet another double-digit loss Thursday night in a game where most of the skill players on offense were out with either injuries or because of COVID-19 protocols.

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams also torched the defense, connecting for 10 receptions and 173 yards. Defensive back Jimmie Ward did not do much to change the outcome and for some reason he decided to call out a past opponent in DK Metcalf on his Instagram story.

Jimmie Ward fails to remember DK Metcalf’s dominance

This was bizarre, considering the 49ers had just lost and the week prior, Metcalf destroyed that secondary. He had 12 receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Ward highlighting a few plays where he didn’t allow the receiver to make a catch is comical.

Ward seems to think throwing Metcalf to the ground once at the conclusion of a play constitutes a rewatch. All Metcalf and Seahawks fans can do at this is laugh because he had a career day and obviously isn’t going to get a reception on every play. Twelve catches on 15 targets is nothing to complain about.

The 49ers have lost two straight games and there may be no end in sight with Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle out for several weeks. A matchup against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints next week doesn’t look like a great matchup for this 49ers secondary featuring Ward.

The defensive back was the 30th overall pick by the 49ers in 2014 and just signed a three-year, $28.5 million extension. He seems to want to talk the talk, but he may want to focus on situations where he actually had a good game. Getting torched by Metcalf and bragging about plays where he wasn’t targeted is a bad look.
