Christian McCaffrey getting injured again is just the pits

Christian McCaffrey fantasy owners have to be beside themselves entering Week 10.

After missing the last six weeks due to an ankle injury, Carolina Panthers‘ star running back Christian McCaffrey returned vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. It was a glorious return for the most valuable player in fantasy, as McCaffrey had 18 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown, as well as 10 catches for 82 yards out of the backfield. Unfortunately, he got hurt again in Week 9.

The Fantasy Footballers are beside themselves after only getting three games out of McCaffrey through the first nine weeks of the season. McCaffrey was almost certainly the first player taken in your 2020 fantasy football draft. He is the type of running back who never has to leave the field. However, he may miss some time with a shoulder injury suffered in the narrow Chiefs loss.

The good news for McCaffrey owners is you were probably smart enough to pick up Mike Davis in the last month and change to get all those precious carries out of the Carolina backfield. Though Davis only had one carry for three yards on Sunday, he did have five catches on six targets for 34 yards out of the backfield. Even with McCaffrey back, Davis did see the field at least a little bit.

Will Christian McCaffrey be healthy come fantasy football playoff time?

For the Panthers, they have fallen on hard times of late. They have not won a game in almost a month, as Matt Rhule’s rebuilding NFC South team sits at 3-6 through their first nine games of the season. Carolina will not be a playoff team this year and there are only seven weeks left in the fantasy season. Will McCaffrey be back in time for the fantasy football playoffs this season?

Carolina’s next three games are home vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, home vs. the Detroit Lions and at the Minnesota Vikings. Only Tampa Bay looks like a playoff team out of that NFC trio. The Panthers have their bye in Week 13. That means their matchups during fantasy playoff season are home vs. the Denver Broncos, at the Green Bay Packers and at the Washington Football Team.

Assuming McCaffrey is able to get back in time for the Week 14 date vs. Denver, McCaffrey owners have at least two favorable matchups in the postseason: Home vs. Denver and at Washington. The only issue is the Week 15 matchup at Green Bay. The weather might be bad, which may serve McCaffrey, but that feels like a game Carolina will be trailing from the jump.
