Don’t expect to have D.J. Moore back for Week 14 fantasy

D.J. Moore suffered an ankle injury in Week 12’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

The Carolina Panthers‘ 2020 NFL season started with a roar and will almost certainly go out with a whimper. In their latest loss of the season to the Minnesota Vikings by a point, the Panthers fall to 4-8 through Week 12. Not only has running back Christian McCaffrey been banged up all year, but wide receiver D.J. Moore is expected to miss some time in the final weeks of the season.

The Fantasy Footballers did not feel good about seeing Moore be helped off in the Panthers’ Week 12 road loss to the Vikings. While it has only been diagnosed as an ankle injury up to this point, this could be more significant of an injury that people realize. What makes this injury even worse if he is not going to anything for you in fantasy football in either of the next two weeks.

With two games left to be played in Week 12 of the 2020 NFL season, the Panthers are one of only two teams who have yet to go on their annual bye week. Along with the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Panthers have played every week of the season up to this point. Both NFC South rival clubs will be on their annual bye in Week 13. What does this mean for Moore’s owners?

D.J. Moore cannot be counted on come fantasy playoff season

With the Panthers being on bye this week, that means Moore will not be able to contribute to any fantasy football team in any capacity in Week 13. While it might help Moore recover and be back in time for Week 14, do not count on him being able to play at all in two weeks, much less be a viable contributor on your fantasy team in the first round of the fantasy playoffs this season.

So what should you do to counterbalance not having Moore seemingly the rest of the way? You can expect guys like Curtis Samuel to make up for his absence in the Panthers’ passing game. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will have to throw the football to someone and it might as well be Samuel in Week 14 if Moore is unable to return to the field. After that, play it week-by-week.

If it is just an ankle injury that needs two weeks of rest, Moore could be back for either the fantasy playoff semifinals or the fantasy football championship in your league. Though Carolina may already be mailing it in at that point in the season, Moore want want to return if he can and finish his season on a high note. Keep an eye on his recovery and see if he can return in Weeks 15 or 16.
