Cowboys: Stephen Jones admits Dallas wanted to draft Jalen Hurts, and blew it

If Jerry Jones had bis way, Jalen Hurts would be on the Dallas Cowboys.

The Philadelphia Eagles raised plenty of eyebrows when they selected Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but that selection proved to be quite a prudent one, as Hurts has been lighting up the box score after taking the job over from Carson Wentz. Ahead of Hurts’ first introduction to the bloodbath that is the Eagles’ rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys, Cowboys VP Stephen Jones claims that he originally wanted Hurts to what the star on the side of his helmet.

During an interview with 105.3 The Fan, Jones claims that the Cowboys had an interest in drafting Hurts, who grew up as a Cowboys fan in Texas, but the Eagles foiled their plan when they picked him earlier than Dallas expected.

Jalen Hurts has looked the part early in his career, which could be a bad sign for Dallas

In two starts, Hurts has accounted for five touchdowns without turning the ball over. Hurts, who piled up 171 rushing yards in his first two starts, led the Eagles to an upset against the New Orleans Saints before matching Kyler Murray blow for blow in a loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Considering how dead the offense looked with Wentz, this has been simply astonishing.

While Dallas has re-entered the playoff picture in the weak NFC East after taking him two straight victories, getting their third-straight could be tough against an Eagles team that is playing with tons of momentum at the moment.

With Wentz and his error-prone ways under center, Dallas might be favored in this one. However, with Hurts playing electric football, Philly might give Dallas problems this week and for the next decade, provided he is able to sustain.
