Seahawks fans can’t believe Urban Meyer hired Brian Schottenheimer

Brian Schottenheimer is back to being a NFL head coach and Seattle fans are here to give Jacksonville a wake up call.

Seattle Seahawks fans knew it was time to move off Brian Schottenheimer following the NFC Wild Card Round. With a thumbless Jared Goff, the Los Angeles Rams threw for 155 yards and a touchdown that gave them a 30-20 win.

After trading away two first-round picks for Jamal Adams and fixing their defense, a quick playoff exit was in their future. Pete Carroll was done and Schottenheimer was let go the following week.

Now, he’ll have another shot at helping an offense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with Schottenheimer to become the team’s pass-game coordinator for the 2020 season. The 47-year-old will work under new Jaguars’ head coach Urban Meyer and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

For those who might not know, Schottenheimer replaced Bevell in Seattle following the 2017 season.

There’s plenty to like overall on Schottenheimer’s role. His 19-year experience shows the multiple different styles of offense that have escalated over the years. However, Seattle fans might want to send a word of caution over to Duval County before the start of 2021.

Schottenheimer and Seattle’s second half struggles leads to questions

When the 2020 season began, many believed the MVP was Russell Wilson’s to lose. The team was red-hot offensively and the passing attack wouldn’t quit. However, by Week 17, it felts as if Wilson was the biggest problem for Seattle’s chance at a Lombardi title.

Statically, Schottenheimer brought out the best in Wilson during their three-year stint. In 2019, the Seahawks’ gunslinger threw for 31 touchdowns against just five interceptions and finished with a QBR rating of 106.3.

In 2020, Wilson threw a career-best 40 touchdowns completed and also a career-high 68.8 percent of passes. He also threw a career-worst 13 interceptions.

The Jaguars are expected to go forward and draft Clemson superstar Trevor Lawrence. Schottenheimer, who became a household name as a quarterback’s coach, will have a role in the team’s progression of working with the former Tigers’ pocket-passer.

For every great play Lawrence makes, there’s a bad one in the wings with Schottenheimer’s presence. Seattle fans know that far too well. Schottenheimer getting another chance is fantastic for his resume, but will it be good for the future of the Jaguars’ offense?
