Super Bowl 55: Tyreek Hill wants to race Scotty Miller at halftime

Scotty Miller said he could beat Tyreek Hill in a race, and the Kansas City Chiefs wideout suggested the two participate in a halftime sprint.

A week ago, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers punched their tickets to Super Bowl 55. While the biggest storyline entering the big game is the battle between elder statesman Tom Brady against the rising star in Patrick Mahomes, one thing we didn’t think we’d see is a bit of a rivalry between Tyreek Hill and Scotty Miller.

Shortly after defeating the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game, Miller was asked during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show who would win in a race. The Buccaneers wideout said he’d take himself “every day of the week.”

During Super Bowl 55 media day on Monday, the Chiefs wideout didn’t blame Miller for making his statement and admired his confidence. But the Chiefs speedy receiver suggested that the two “can do something during halftime.”

Don’t bank on the race happening during the Super Bowl

While Hill’s suggestion was awesome and adds to the spectacle that is the Super Bowl, you have to imagine that idea is going to be nixed by head coaches Andy Reid and Bruce Arians. It’s the biggest game of the season, and neither coach wants his receiver picking up an injury to settle a debate on who is faster.

But who really is the quickest pass-catcher of them all? According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Hill hit 20.76 mph and Miller clocked 20.64 mph on catches during Championship Sunday. As for their 40-yard dash times, the two were not invited to the Scouting Combine. But at their respective Pro Days, Miller clocked 4.39-seconds, while Hill ran a 4.29-second dash.

So based off the numbers, Hill predictably has the edge. But it would be fun to see the two settle the score in a sprint. If that were to happen, our bets would be it happens at an event in the offseason, not in the middle of the most important game of the season.
