The Denver Broncos might be ready to move on from starting quarterback Drew Lock.
While Drew Lock could be the Denver Broncos‘ starting quarterback entering the 2021 NFL season, he has been tied to a few teams in a series of blockbuster trades.
The former second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by way of Missouri has had an up-and-down professional career up to this point. Lock is 8-10 as the Broncos’ starter, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 3,953 yards, 23 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. While he has shown promise at times, inconsistencies and some degree of immaturity have contributed to the Broncos possibly being ready to move on from him. If they do, it could be to one of these three teams by this spring.

Sam Darnold could do wonders with a change of scenery
One quarterback the Broncos could be interested in trading for is Sam Darnold of the New York Jets. The former No. 3 overall pick out of USC in the 2018 NFL Draft has not exactly been the next Joe Namath in the Big Apple. Of course, he has had no stability from the front office or either coaching staff he’s played for. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal with Gang Green.
Since the Jets have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, they could be in line to draft a quarterback, whether it is Justin Fields out of Ohio State or Zach Wilson out of BYU. If the Jets do want to go in that direction, it is in their best interest to have Darnold out of the building and for their new face of the franchise to start anew with head coach Robert Saleh. So what about Lock?
The idea behind trading for Lock is he would be a stopgap starter, while someone like Fields or Wilson gets ready for action. Fields would be ready to go day one, while Wilson may need some time before he is thrust out there. Either way, Lock is a significantly better backup quarterback option over the shot fighter that is Joe Flacco. Lock also does play similarly to Fields and Wilson.
Would it be a Darnold for Lock trade straight up? Denver might need to add a day two, a day three or some other future compensation to sweeten the deal. Again, Denver would be trading for a starting quarterback, while New York would be freeing up space to draft another. Lock will be there to keep the seat warm. If he plays well before Fields or Wilson are ready, he could be dealt again.
