Bears: 3 options to replace Allen Robinson if he leaves in free agency

As Allen Robinson edges closer to leaving in free agency, here are three receivers the Bears could get to replace him.

Allen Robinson is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. In the context of the quarterback play he’s had to overcome in Jacksonville and Chicago, the numbers he has put are even more impressive. He’s also a free agent, and the best wide receiver set to hit the market.

The Bears may want to keep Robinson, but there’s no tangible evidence they’ve made an effort to do so. Contract negotiations reportedly haven’t happened since September, and the deadline to place the franchise tag on his is coming next week. But that’s the biggest card the Bears hold, to control Robinson via the franchise tag.

General manager Ryan Pace has said that’s an option, with an earlier report they could tag and trade him.

Robinson has been fairly outspoken about how things are going with the Bears, and he continued to be on The Cris Collinsworth Podcast.

There’s really no replacing Robinson if he leaves in free agency. But here are three options for the Bears to fill his spot on the roster, and probably replace him as their No. 1 wide receiver, if he’s gone.

3. Marvin Jones

Jones is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the league, with nine touchdowns in three of the last four seasons with the Detroit Lions. He should find a pretty good market in free agency, though he may have his eye on a reunion with Matthew Stafford.

Cost may be a thing for the Bears, as they need to create some cap space for any real free agency splashes. But they’ve seen plenty of Jones over the last few years, so that familiarity should breed interest if Robinson is out of the picture.
