Green Bay Packers, NFL Free Agency

Packers surprise NFL and bring back Aaron Jones on multi-year deal

Aaron Jones has decided to stay with the Green Bay Packers, as he just inked a four-year extension worth $48 million with a $13 million signing bonus ahead of his free agency.

It is good to be Aaron Jones, as he just re-upped on a sweet, multi-year extension with the Green Bay Packers.

Jones was slated to hit NFL free agency later this week, but he is sticking with the team who drafted him out of UTEP on a sweet four-year, $48 million extension. This includes a $13 million signing bonus. For the first time in his NFL career, Jones is making some serious money. By signing with Drew Rosenhaus as his agent, Jones went for the bag and absolutely got it from the Packers.

Aaron Jones sticking with the Packers keeps Green Bay Super Bowl contenders

It is rare that running backs get paid big money by the team who drafted them on a second contract. However, Jones seems to be in the camp of Derrick Henry as a star running back still in the midst of his prime in his mid-20s. Jones is coming off his first Pro Bowl season and his second 1,000-yard campaign on the ground. He keeps the Packers Super Bowl contenders by returning.

While Green Bay is running out of time to win a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, the Packers got a huge boost by retaining Jones on a new contract extension. If he plays up to the same standard we have seen the last two years, Green Bay may have a Super Bowl run or two left in them before Rodgers does decide to call it a career and hang up the spikes.

Packers fans should be ecstatic that Jones is not going anywhere ahead of his free agency.
