Ohio State football: Justin Fields’ 40 time is shaking up the top of the NFL Draft

Ohio State football fans have known for years that quarterback Justin Fields could really fly.

After Ohio State football star Justin Fields ran his 40-yard dash at his pro day, this has a chance to have a massive shakeup atop the 2021 NFL Draft.

Throughout much of the draft process, Fields has been in a tug of war with BYU quarterback Zach Wilson for the second signal-caller to come off the board after Trevor Lawrence. While some pundits prefer Wilson over Fields, Wilson will not run a 4.41 40-yard dash at his pro day.

Justin Fields running a 40 makes up for us not seeing Lamar Jackson run his

Good Morning Football‘s Kyle Brandt brings up the interesting comparison between Fields and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Though Jackson was a former first-round pick out of Louisville, not running a 40 at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine had him fall all the way to No. 32. He wanted to prove to everyone he is and always will be a quarterback. However, it was costly.

With Fields running a 40, it likely signifies he will be the second player taken in the 2021 NFL Draft, depending on what the New York Jets want to do with that top-two selection. While some have criticized Fields’ passing ability and his processing through his reads, you can’t deny what a huge asset it is to have blazing foot speed at as a quarterback.

Fields laid to rest any notion he is not a high-end, dual-threat quarterback NFL Draft prospect.
