The Packers still have time to sign a quality wide receiver in free agency. Here are three available targets who can help Aaron Rodgers in 2021.
At some point, the Packers front office has to give in to fan demand and acquire a talented No. 2 wide receiver to help take pressure off of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. Green Bay might try to use April’s NFL Draft to fill that roster hole, but there are still quality options available via free agency.
Some Packers fans might still be disappointed at the franchise’s decision to pass on big-name stars like Kenny Golladay or Juju Smith-Schuster on the open market. That’s a fair criticism, but it doesn’t mean Green Bay can’t still find value in this year’s free agent class.
The Packers aren’t going to find a superstar in what amounts to the bargain basement of this year’s free agency period, but they can ink a quality starter who can make a material difference to the team’s Super Bowl chances in 2021. Green Bay fans should keep a close eye on the following three free agents.
3. Danny Amendola
Signing a 35-year-old wideout isn’t going to give the Packers a long-term solution at the position, but Amendola can be a significant short-term fix. He’s still a quality option the slot and is just the sort of pass-catcher that can earn Rodgers’ trust with his solid hands and precise route-running.
Amendola is clearly in Green Bay’s wheelhouse when it comes to price. He’s not going to get anything more than a one-year deal at this stage of his career and he’ll struggle to get a guarantee significantly above the NFL minimum.
The drawback to Amendola is that he can’t really fill the Packers’ void on the outside opposite Adams. His lack of size means he should only be deployed in the slot. Even with that restriction, he has a chance to turn into a massive bargain for the Packers.
