Aaron Rodgers put in the time to become the best guest host of Jeopardy! he could be.
Whether it is taking on another NFC juggernaut ahead of an NFL Sunday or having to guest host on Jeopardy! for two weeks, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is all about the preparation.
Rodgers will be guest hosting the incredibly popular game show. His episodes were filmed back in February and they will begin airing on Monday. Filling in for the late Alex Trebek will be difficult for anybody, but this is an honor and a privilege Rodgers has taken to heart. He prepared for his two-week run of guest hosting like he would be playing quarterback for the Packers in a playoff game.
“I watched hours and hours and hours of episodes,” said Rodgers to ESPN on Friday. “Luckily Netflix has a few seasons, and I went back to DVR. But I had to watch from a different perspective — from Alex’s perspective. I couldn’t watch it as a fan anymore.
“I took pages and pages and pages of notes. I wrote down every affirmative that he said to any type of clue. I wrote down how he would respond if they didn’t get it right. I wrote down beat points of the show. I wrote down all the different ways he would take it to break. I wrote down the stuff that he said coming out of break. Literally, I studied for this like no other. I wanted to absolutely just crush it.”

With Trebek’s untimely death from cancer back on Nov. 8 at the age of 80, many television viewers wondered how a game show as synonymous with him like Jeaopardy! could go on. While Rodgers being able to guest host should be fun for any regular and casual viewers of the show, he does not have to emulate Trebek; he just needs to be himself. Hopefully, Rodgers will come across that way.
Rodgers is in the twilight of his 30s and is more than a decade removed since last playing in a Super Bowl. The Packers have since lost four straight NFC Championship games, including the 2020 conference title at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he does hang up the spikes here soon, maybe Rodgers can have a lucrative television career like his younger brother Jordan has?
