Brian Flores’ team won 10 games this past season but that wasn’t good enough to grab a playoff berth in the AFC.

It’s a team that doubled its victory total from the previous season. The Miami Dolphins finished 10-6 in 2020 – its best showing since an identical mark in ’16. While that club reached the playoffs, Brian Flores’ club fell short of the postseason despite the fact that seven teams from each conference qualified.

But there’s a new season on the horizon and both general manager Chris Grier and head coach Brian Flores have hopefully bolstered the roster (via Ourlads) from a year ago. The Dolphins were swept by the AFC East champion Buffalo Bills this past season and haven’t won a division title since 2008.

So which five players could make a bigger impact this upcoming fall? There’s a newcomer whom the team picked up this offseason on the list.

5. OLB Brennan Scarlett

The five-year pro comes over from the Houston Texans. The former undrafted free agent comes off a modest 2020 in which he played in only 11 games and made four starts. He finished with 24 defensive stops, to go along with four special teams tackles. The previous year, he came up with career bests in games played (15), starts (10) and defensive tackles (48).

Scarlett also notched a personal best 3.5 sacks, to go along with a pair of forced fumbles and three more special teams stops. The Dolphins will miss those six sacks via Kyle Van Noy from this past season and the former Texan could fill the void and more.
