Steelers fan favorite James Conner says goodbye to Pittsburgh in emotional post

Running back James Conner posted a heartfelt goodbye to Pittsburgh after he officially signed his new deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Goodbyes are never easy for NFL players in free agency. Just ask former Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner about that. The speedster just signed a new deal with the Arizona Cardinals, officially bringing an end to his days with Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh.

This of course isn’t easy for Conner, which he made more than clear in a Twitter post where he said goodbye to the city that really means so much to him.

James Conner saying goodbye to Pittsburgh is tough for Steelers fans to accept

As you can see from Conner’s post, this truly is so difficult for him. Remember, he grew up in Erie, Pa. and was a standout for the Pitt Panthers after his high school days. He also battled cancer when he was younger, but that didn’t stop him from reaching his NFL dreams. The Steelers drafting him only made things that much sweeter.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder spent the past four campaigns with Pittsburgh, rushing for 2,302 yards and 22 touchdowns. Conner really broke out in 2018, earning Pro Bowl honors after rushing for 973 yards and 12 scores. Because he’s a Pittsburgh native too, fans loved him throughout his career at Heinz Field.

Now, though, Conner is all set for the next chapter of his NFL career to get underway. He’ll be joining an explosive offense for the Arizona Cardinals, which already features Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins and others.

While it’s going to be incredibly weird seeing him in a different jersey next season, Pittsburgh fans will surely keep supporting Conner. He’s a guy who is too easy to root for, especially after everything he’s had to overcome.
