Although they have the quarterback, the Kansas City Chiefs must address other needs in the 2021 NFL Draft.
So long as Patrick Mahomes is healthy, the Kansas City Chiefs will be considered a contender in the AFC.
Following a 31-9 loss in the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City will be playing with a chip on its shoulder in 2021. The team released tackles Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher before the start of free agency, and while their presence will be missed, the addition of Joe Thuney and Austin Blythe should bolster the interior offense.
That won’t be enough to make sure Kansas City is still the top team in the conference. However, with these three moves on draft day, they certainly will be able to solidify their status as the team to beat come January of 2022.
3. Add a perimeter wide receiver
Although the team will be hoping that DeMarcus Robinson can take over for Sammy Watkins, you can never have enough pass-catchers in the game. Inside and out, the more weapons you have, the better.
Kansas City needs more competition on the outside than rather in the slot. The hope is that Mecole Hardman can take over as the No. 2 option consistently and keep drives alive on third and short. However, Robinson or not, adding talent that could be here for four years is a good and also cost-affordable way to remain a top-level offense.
The Chiefs do not need to add a wideout in the first round. Names like North Carolina’s Dyami Brown, Auburn’s Seth Williams and Illinois Josh Imatorbhebhe all should be available on Days 2 and 3, respectively.
Sure, the arsenal is good. It could be better with a possessional target on the perimeter.
