Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Draft

Trey Smith to the Chiefs is a steal the NFL shouldn’t have let happen

Tennessee football star Trey Smith was finally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 226.

After having to wait far too long to hear his name called, former Tennessee football standout offensive lineman Trey Smith will be making his way to the Kansas City Chiefs as the No. 226 overall selection in 2021.

Despite being an all-conference performer twice in this SEC career, Smith was straight up not having a good time after day two of the 2021 NFL Draft reached its completion. He sent out a very ominous tweet to all the teams who ended up passing on him. Fate would have it that his draft slide would end by the best team who could possibly pick him up drafting him in Kansas City.

I could be totally wrong here, but this feels like the biggest steal of the entire 2021 NFL Draft.

Kansas City Chiefs draft Tennessee football phenom Trey Smith at No. 226

While there is a chance Smith is just a guy in the NFL, there was no earthly reason he needed to be on the draft board into the 200s. Yes, he plays the most overlooked position on the field in guard. And even though Tennessee is coming off an utterly rancid season, Smith was probably the Vols’ best player last year. He dominated against top-tier SEC competition, and now he is a Chief.

Smith joins a revamped offensive line that features tackles Joe Thuney and Orlando Brown Jr., guard Kyle Long and fellow draft classmate Creed Humphrey out of Oklahoma. What was a weakness for the defending AFC champions may now be a strength. Kansas City will benefit from getting a fired-up Smith who feels he was slept on by all the teams who passed on him this year.

If an offensive guard is ever going to be the steal of the draft, Smith has the chance to be the guy.
