The Minnesota Vikings had one of the better showings in the 2021 NFL Draft. Here are three of their best moves of the weekend.
The Minnesota Vikings entered the NFL Draft looking to improve their chances of contending for an NFC playoff spot after missing out this past season. What must have given them even more incentive to improve was the news regarding Aaron Rodgers, who reportedly has no intention of playing for the Green Bay Packers again. With that, this was the time for the Vikings to strike.
After all was said and done, the Vikings had one of the better draft classes in the NFL. But which moves by general manager Rick Spielman stood out as the best? Here are three of the better decisions by the Vikings.
3. Drafting Wyatt Davis in the third round
When it comes to the NFC North, you better have your offensive line all squared away, especially with the pass rush attacks of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. When looking at the Vikings last year, quarterback Kirk Cousins was sacked 39 times in the 16-game season, which was the sixth-most among signal callers. There needed to be additions made, and that is exactly what Spielman did.
In the third round of the NFL Draft, the Vikings selected Ohio State guard Wyatt Davis with the 86th overall pick. While Davis was dealing with a knee injury this past year, he still ranked as one of the top guards in this class. Davis was an All-American in the past two years for a reason.
At 6-foot-4, 315-pounds, Davis has the chance to start immediately in Minnesota. Not only could the Buckeye help keep Cousins upright, but he can also open up holes in the interior of the line of scrimmage for star running back Dalvin Cook. This was a great pick by the Vikings.
