Why did Alabama football star Dylan Moses go undrafted?

Explaining why former Alabama football star Dylan Moses went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Despite being a fantastic college player, Alabama football star linebacker Dylan Moses was one of the many draft-eligible prospects who went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Coming out of high school, Moses was as highly touted as a recruit you could ever hope to come across. He took his five-star status to Tuscaloosa in the hopes of being the next star on the Alabama defense. Moses was on track to becoming that before an untimely preseason knee injury in 2019 unfortunately derailed his college career. In 2020, he persevered through a meniscus injury that hampered his play. Two years later, he is still struggling to get back to pre-injury form.

Lingering questions and concerns about his short-term and long-term viability is why he went undrafted.

Moses has since signed on with Urban Meyer’s Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent.

Alabama football: Dylan Moses going undrafted still feels completely wrong

Had Moses not gotten hurt in the 11th hour leading up to the 2019 college football season, odds are that he would have been in the running to win the Bednarik, the Butkus, been a unanimous First-Team All-American and a lock to go in the top 10 of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He was that talented entering his true junior season with the Crimson Tide. Frankly, seeing his draft stock plummet like it did makes us all sad.

While we understand that football is a game of injuries, to see a can’t-miss prospect not even get drafted two years later is borderline unfathomable.

Though Moses does go to a rebuilding team to play for a college coaching icon in a relatively small media market, we all sit back and wonder what could have been for Moses had he stayed healthy. Here is to him succeeding now with the Jaguars.

Moses went undrafted for the same reason he returned to school for his senior season: His knee.
