Tim Tebow is officially a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars and you can buy his No. 85 jersey now, but you may want to hold off because he may have a number change.
Tim Tebow is playing a new position after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars and he’ll have a new jersey number as a result of playing tight end.
Tebow previously wore No. 15 but will wear No. 85 — for now — with the Jaguars after making the position switch. Plus, Gardner Minshew II is on the roster and has that number.
There’s been a lot of talk about the Jaguars trading Minshew to a quarterback-needy team all offseason since they drafted Trevor Lawrence. Should Minshew be removed from the roster, Tebow’s old number will be available for him to take if he wants.

And despite playing tight end, the new NFL rules on jersey numbers allow Tebow to wear No. 15 like he did when he was a quarterback. Tebow previously wore No. 85 while playing in the Mets organization.
A photoshop edit shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter showed Tebow wearing a No. 5 jersey, but he will not be wearing that number.
You can buy a No. 85 Tebow jersey now if you want. The Jaguars team shop is already advertising the Tebow jersey alongside Lawrence and Travis Etienne at the top of the site. The latter two are the team’s first round picks from April’s draft and the future of the franchise. Meanwhile, Tebow is suiting up in a football uniform for the first time since the 2015 preseason after spending the last several years toiling away in the minor leagues as a member of the Mets and working as a broadcaster with the SEC Network.
But if I was a Tebow fan and wanted a Jaguars jersey, I would wait a little longer to see if he changes his number so you don’t waste your money on a jersey with a number he never wears.
