Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons

DeAndre Hopkins is willing to go to great lengths to get Julio Jones to Cardinals

DeAndre Hopkins would restructure his contract if that meant getting Julio Jones to Arizona.

Even though the Arizona Cardinals may not be in the market to add another wide receiver, that would not stop DeAndre Hopkins from agreeing to a restructure if that meant Julio Jones was coming to the Valley of the Sun.

The internet has tried to trade Jones away from the Atlanta Falcons for the better part of three offseasons. While Atlanta has not been a .500 team during that span, the Falcons are in salary cap hell and make look to part ways with their greatest player in franchise history. Regardless of how loaded the Cardinals receiving corps is, Hopkins would be down with a restructure to get Jones.

Should the Cardinals listen their most talented player and see if they can make a trade for Jones?

Arizona Cardinals: DeAndre Hopkins would restructure his deal for Julio Jones

According to Spotrac, the Cardinals have over $13.3 million in available salary cap. That would be a little short of covering Jones’ base salary of $15.3 million for 2021, not to mention roughly $7.75 million in bonuses and incentives. While Hopkins will only make $4.75 million in base salary for 2021, his two-year extension with Arizona kicks in at $19.45 million for 2023. There is room.

Ultimately, adding another wide receiver to a corps featuring the likes of Hopkins, A.J. Green and Christian Kirk is not going to get the Cardinals to a Super Bowl. Trading for Jones is not going to save head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s job if Arizona fails to make the NFL Playoffs. As much as Hopkins would want to see Jones in this four verts offense, Arizona should not be a player for him.

Signing Green in free agency this offseason ensures us that Jones is not going to the Cardinals.
