Kansas City Chiefs: Tyrann Mathieu’s latest tweet will pump up fans

This is an important year for Mathieu, not only because of the team’s lofty goals. Rather, it is the final year in which Mathieu will be under contract with the team. Back in 2019, Mathieu signed on with the Chiefs on a three-year, $42 million deal. As for a contract extension, it is currently a mystery if that is in the cards.

Mathieu is coming off a 2020 regular-season where he recorded 62 total tackles, nine defended passes, six interceptions, one defensive touchdown and one fumble recovery. In coverage, Mathieu allowed 42 receptions for 535 yards and two touchdowns on 67 targets, per Pro Football Reference.

The Chiefs have high expectations heading into the 2021 campaign. They are considered the favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl once again, thanks in part to their moves in free agency, the trading block and the NFL Draft. After getting blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last February, the Chiefs are saying they would not let that happen again next season. Not to mention that quarterback Patrick Mahomes is aiming to go 20-0 throughout the 2021 season and playoffs.

Whatever the future holds, Mathieu let the world know, via his Twitter caption, that there is still more for him to accomplish.
