Broncos player says Deshaun Watson wants to be traded to Denver

Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson says Deshaun Watson wants to be his teammate again.

While it seems as though Deshaun Watson has played his last snap for the Houston Texans, his former Houston teammate Kareem Jackson says he wants to be traded to his Denver Broncos.

Jackson revealed this on Aqib Talib’s Catchin’ Fades podcast. Talib played an integral part in the Broncos’ No Fly Zone defense, helping Denver win its most recent Super Bowl in 2015. Jackson had been teammates with Watson in Houston from 2017-18 before he signed a three-year deal with the Broncos in his free agency. Denver has been a potential landing spot for Watson.

If Watson can get his legal situation under control, he just might be the next Broncos quarterback.

Though trading him intra-conference would be a tricky proposition for the Texans to make, they are the likeliest team to end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. This means they can draft Watson’s long-term successor and get compensation for trading him away. What will be interesting is if Watson will even be allowed to play this fall because of his ongoing legal issues.

Denver has an excellent roster, but one that will be held back by sub-par quarterback play this year. Whether it is Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater under center, it does not really matter. Denver is only a borderline playoff team at best if either of those quarterbacks do play their best ball. But by trading for Watson, the Broncos could theoretically compete for AFC playoff berths right away.

Watson being traded to the Broncos would have a seismic shift in the overall hierarchy of the AFC.
